Liverpool receive boost in Pepe pursuit

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their potential pursuit of Lille winger Nicolas Pepe with Bayern Munich reportedly losing interest in his services.

Bayern were thought to be primary suitors of the 24-year-old but it seems like the board don’t believe he is up to standard.

According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, cited by @GFFN on Twitter, Pepe isn’t the German champions’ first-choice target.

The board had said no to a transfer because he’s not the quality of Bayern Munich, but if they don’t get any winger, perhaps they have to rethink Pépé.

The Ivory Coast international caught the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs this season, scoring 23 goals and providing 12 assists in 41 games for Lille.

His vital goal contribution saw Lille celebrate a second-place finish in Ligue 1 to earn the ‘best of the rest’ title; due to Paris Saint-Germain’s repeated dominance.

The French club will be playing Champions League football next season but seem resigned to losing their star man due to financial limitations.
