Liverpool scouts were reportedly present at the Russian Super Cup on Saturday to take a close look at Zenit St Petersburg striker Sardar Azmoun.

According to SovSport, cited by the Metro, the Reds’ trip was to look closely at the Iranian, and the forward didn’t disappoint, scoring twice in a 3-2 defeat against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Azmoun has reportedly been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, with the forward plying his professional trade in Russia since 2013.

The striker has improved year on year in Europe, regularly finding the back of the net for Zenit St Petersburg after joining from Rubin Kazan earlier in the year.

Liverpool may well decide to firm up their long-term interest with a concrete offer ahead of the new season, with Jurgen Klopp possibly open to signing another striker if Divock Origi leaves Anfield.

Klopp is keen to hand youngster Rhian Brewster a first-team chance next season, so if Origi does depart, the Reds could well look at Azmoun as a potential replacement.
