Liverpool youngster Paul Glatzel returns to training

Liverpool youngster Paul Glatzel has returned to training following what has been described as a ”really tough” injury layoff by Reds Under 23s coach Barry Lewtas, speaking to the club’s official website.

The 19-year-old had been sidelined after sustaining ankle ligament damage in a 0-0 draw with Southampton as Jurgen Klopp watched on.

The striker has recently returned to training with the U23s alongside Abdi Sharif, who has suffered an ACL injury in September, and Lewtas is delighted to welcome the pair back.

He said: ”Paul (Glatzel) and Abdi (Sharif) have been two boys who have been through the mill recently with a few setbacks, it’s pleasing to get any player back from injury but some have been through it worse than others, like Paul and Abdi. To see them back on the grass and training hard is a real positive for them but also the group as well. It’s just great to see the smiles back on their faces.”

Lewtas went on to describe the amount of football missed by the talented duo as a ”really tough” setback for their development.

Born in Liverpool but a Germany youth international, Glatzel has made steady progress through the academy ranks at Kirkby and is 24 goals in 47 appearances across the youth competitions have caught the eye.

Liverpool and injuries have been the story of the season it seems, regardless of level.

Glatzel has previously been called up to train with the first team and it would seem so long as this setback doesn’t have a lasting impact, there could be a bright future for the striker.
