Gary Neville believes Jurgen Klopp will be ‘nervous’ ahead of Man City clash

Jurgen Klopp will be ‘nervous’ ahead of Liverpool’s vital clash with Manchester City, according to Sky Sports pundit and 12-time Premier League winner Gary Neville.

The Reds make the trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a game which could have a big bearing on the Premier League title race.

Liverpool are currently five points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side having played a game more, so victory would be huge for the champions.

Klopp’s men have been looking shaky in defence in the absence of Virgil van Dijk, however, and despite topping the table currently, no team has conceded more goals (15).

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast on Sunday, via the Liverpool Echo, Neville claimed Klopp will be worried about what could happen at the back against City:

I think Jurgen Klopp will be nervous because they will be more exposed. I’m looking forward to seeing Manchester City vs Liverpool next Sunday.

That will be a real test and give us a good guide as to where Manchester City are this season and where Liverpool are without Van Dijk.

Sunday’s match does have a huge feel to it, partly because Liverpool and City have both been a little off the boil this season. Neither team has hit top gear consistently and they don’t look as unbeatable as they have in previous years.

There is a feeling that anything could happen at the Etihad and it will be a massive test of Liverpool’s defence.

They have battled through against the likes of Ajax, Sheffield United and West Ham without looking fully convincing, but City have the players to really hurt the Reds.

Liverpool could pass with flying colours, performing well at the back and winning, but it is also easy to envisage the lack of Van Dijk being all too apparent on Sunday.
