Opinion: Liverpool player ratings from hard-fought EPL victory

Liverpool were made to fight until the final whistle for their victory against a resilient West Ham side.

Jurgen Klopp’s men cut the gap at the top of the Premier League to just three points as leaders Manchester City prepare to face Manchester United today (March 6).

A first-half goal from Sadio Mane was enough to separate the two sides but overall the Reds struggled to create clear cut chances throughout the 90 minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the highest rating player on Sofascore as the right-back earned an outstanding 8.90 score for a performance containing two interceptions, one goal-line clearance and the all-important assist.

Here’s how we rated the Liverpool stars…

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

XI: Alisson 8; Trent Alexander-Arnold 8, Ibrahima Konate 7.5, Virgil van Dijk 7, Andy Robertson 7; Fabinho 7, Jordan Henderson 6, Naby Keita 7; Mohamed Salah 6, Luis Diaz 8, Sadio Mane 7.

Subs: Diogo Jota 6, James Milner 7, Curtis Jones NA.

Albeit the goalscorer Mane was ultimately the match-winner and a constant threat in an unfamiliar position, Luis Diaz was once again the most impressive attacker for Klopp’s side.

This was far from a vintage Liverpool display, however, it could’ve been so different had Mohamed Salah scored in the opening minutes – a chance the Egyptian would usually take without a second thought.

But, three points are in the bag and the Reds can move onto Inter Milan – perhaps with Thiago and Roberto Firmino back to fitness – with the title race well and truly on.

matchday.
