OTD: Liverpool goal-machine Mohamed Salah opens Reds’ account

On this day (August 12) in 2017, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah opened a goalscoring account for the Reds that has since been filled with remarkable speed.

The man now dubbed as the ‘Egyptian King’ on Merseyside nodded Jurgen Klopp’s side into the lead during what was an enthralling encounter at Vicarage Road.

Ultimately Salah’s goal wasn’t enough to secure victory against Watford as the Hornets equalised late on to tie the clash at 3-3, but it was a sure-fire sign of things to come from the flying winger.

Signed from AS Roma in the same summer for £34million (BBC), the now 29-year-old went on to break a host of records during a remarkable first campaign as a Red.

Last season Salah continued to dazzle despite struggles elsewhere whilst netting 31 goals from 51 appearances in all competitions.

Having struggled during a first spell in England with Chelsea, nobody could’ve confidently predicted that the 68-cap Egypt superstar would enjoy such riches at Anfield.

An integral part of Klopp’s side and the trophies that have been obtained in recent times, the £90million valued man (Transfermarkt) will be hoping to play a continued part in successes this season.

Furthermore, a new contract is believed to be in the offing as Liverpool attempt to tie down their prized asset beyond 2023.
