A report in the Express claims that Liverpool are interested in signing Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto, dubbed as ‘the new Sergio Aguero’.
According to the Express, Vietto has a buy out clause of just £14.5m, which is considerably less than the £30m price tag that had been mentioned in relation to the Argentine forward.
His agent Jorge Cyterszpiler is quoted in the Express as saying: “We know that a lot of big clubs are watching Luciano Vietto. There is a lot of competition for him. I think he could leave Villarreal in the summer.”
Liverpool aren’t the only club linked with Vietto; Arsenal have been rumoured to be interested in him, as have Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
If Barcelona do come in for the striker, that would severely damage the chances of him joining any other club after he recently admitted that it would be “a dream come true” to play alongside Lionel Messi:
“Everyone dreams of playing alongside Messi. Of course it would be a dream come true. I had the chance to meet him and also to get to know him off the pitch. He is a great person and made the great gesture of presenting me with his jersey. It is a memory I will retain for the rest of my life.”
When asked about his future, the striker kept his cards close to his chest:
“Being honest, I am very relaxed about this. I just try and think solely of Villarreal, in the week’s training and performing game to game. I use all these rumours as motivation, to keep strengthening myself and improving. I have no doubts that if I keep doing well, all will arrive in its own time.”
