Result: Liverpool’s greatest ever defender

Liverpool great Tommy Smith sadly passed away earlier this week at the age of 74 but will undoubtedly keep his place in the club’s folklore for the rest of time.

The ‘Anfield Iron’ made 638 appearances over an 18-year career at Anfield, picking up four league titles, two FA Cups, two UEFA Cups and a European Cup along the way.

Since Smith’s time patrolling the defence, Liverpool have featured plenty of talented centre-halves as part of the back line.

Rolling through the years there have been the likes of Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyppia and, of course, Virgil van Dijk but which do you believe has been the best of the lot.

In remembrance of Smith, it feels like a good time to revisit your votes from last week’s duel where you decided who the best centre-back in the club’s history is.

Here are your top 10 greatest ever Liverpool centre-backs.
