Rumoured Liverpool target David Carmo suffers shocking injury for Braga

Rumoured Liverpool centre-back target David Carmo suffered a shocking ankle injury during Braga’s clash with Porto on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield during the January transfer window, but Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies ended up signing instead.

The centre-back now faces a long spell on the sidelines, however, having been stretchered off the pitch in Braga’s 1-1 draw at home to Porto.

There were 12 minutes of added time because of the length of the stoppage, highlighting the severity of Carmo’s injury.

The hope is that the young Portuguese makes a speedy recovery, with his injury eerily similar to Liverpool’s own centre-back woes this season.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been missing since the autumn and probably won’t play again in 2020/21, while Joel Matip is also out for the remainder of the campaign with ankle ligament damage.

Carmo’s injury is likely to rule him out beyond the summer, potentially ending his chances of joining Liverpool, should he still be considered a transfer target.

The Reds may have to look elsewhere, with RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano looking a front-runner at the moment.

matchday.
