Steven Gerrard has been talking to the media about Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp and a lot more as he continues to enjoy time off from the game.
The former Liverpool captain is still adored at Anfield and is undoubtedly the greatest Premier League player in the club’s history.
Sadly, the Reds’ most successful period in the competition arrived after his departure when Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers at the helm.
And now, Gerrard feels he’d have sacrificed anything to play under the charismatic German.
Steven Gerrard makes Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp confession
“I would sacrifice a lot of things, professionally and personally, to have the opportunity to play for Jürgen Klopp,” said the Englishman via TNT Sports.
“I was offered a one-year contract at the back end of my Liverpool career to stay for one more year, but I was having conversations with the Liverpool staff and the conversations were more like, ‘You’re going to be more of a bit-part player, play fewer minutes and not be as active as I would’ve liked.’
“But if I’d known Jürgen was definitely going to come, I would’ve gambled and stayed and tried to impress Jürgen.”
At the time, Gerrard was surely running on his last legs, but Klopp could have gotten a bit more out of him. What could have been, eh?
