Sadio Mane has ‘no repercussion’ of back issue suffered against Aston Villa

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is fit to face Manchester United at Anfield this weekend after suffering ‘no repercussion’ of the back injury he picked up against Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old grimaced in pain after scoring the opener in last week’s FA Cup victory at Villa Park, but went on to play for 74 minutes.

Despite potential worries about his fitness ahead of Sunday’s vital Premier League clash with United, This Is Anfield have claimed that Mane will be available for the top-of-the-table meeting, stating: “There has been no repercussion of the back problem Sadio Mane looked to have suffered early into last Friday’s victory at Villa”.

A huge performance from Mane is needed on Sunday, with he and his fellow forwards falling short of their best form in recent weeks.

Liverpool have only scored once in their last three league outings against West Brom, Newcastle United and Southampton, with the Reds’ number 10 netting the only goal in the first of those games.

In the 1-0 defeat at Saints, the much-heralded trio of Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were particularly out of sync with one another, creating just one chance between them.

It’s not often that the front three are even remotely questioned – they have scored a combined total of 284 goals for Liverpool – but it hasn’t been a good start to 2021 for them. Hopefully that can be put to bed on Sunday, of all days.
