Liverpool have been relatively quiet since signing Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, although they’ve been locked in talks with PSG for Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
Last night, however, the Reds agreed a shock loan deal for Ronald Araujo as defensive cover.
The Barcelona defender hasn’t been at his best over the past two seasons, but his potential is unquestionable and he’s still young.
And if everything goes as planned, he will complete his medical and be officially announced as a Liverpool player tomorrow.
Ronald Araujo to do Liverpool medical tomorrow
Fabrizio Romano wrote on X: “Liverpool and Barcelona signed all documents for Ronald Araujo loan deal.
“The buy option is confirmed, and it’s not mandatory; #LFC will pay 100% of Araujo’s salary.
“Ronald will travel on Sunday; Liverpool very happy to welcome him.”
This is a deal that can’t really go wrong for Liverpool. Araujo is experienced enough to hold his own at right back and in central defence, while he is a stopgap solution at the very least if he doesn’t fare well enough to make the deal permanent.
There has been no mention of a loan fee, which is an indication that it’s a straight loan with Liverpool covering 100% of his wages.
If he stays fit and finds flashes of his old form, this could be a masterstroke from Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.
