Liverpool’s performance was by no means disappointing, but they fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Kai Havertz scored the solitary goal of the game in the first half after the Gunners capitalised on some poor defending from the hosts to break the deadlock.
Alisson Becker came under a lot of scrutiny after the goal as it was his poor pass that led to the passage of play before Havertz’s goal.
And now, former Liverpool attacker Jermaine Pennant has ripped into the Liverpool goalkeeper for his moment of magic.
Alisson Becker makes costly Liverpool error
Speaking after the game, Pennant took to X to make his feelings very clear.
While he referred to Alisson’s rare mistake as stupid, his overall outlook on the game wasn’t as grim as he still believes Liverpool have what it takes to compete for the Premier League title.
He wrote on X: “One stupid mistake which is unlike Alisson cost us the game, but all in all I’m coming away deflated but I’m happy with what I saw, at no point did i feel worried about Arsenal throughout that game.
“Macca missed a sitter that would’ve changed everything. But we are definitely title contenders; we are definitely going to be challenging…. YNWA”
It was a silly error from Alisson, but the Liverpool faithful need to let it go as this is a goalkeeper who has won the club several points over the years.
