Skrtel calls Liverpool contract offer ‘unacceptable’

Skrtel calls Liverpool contract offer ‘unacceptable’

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has revealed that he is yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool, and called the current offer on the table “unacceptable”.

Skrtel’s current contract expires in the summer of 2016, but he is yet to agree to an extension.

According to the Daily Mail the sticking point seems to be over a clause relating to the number of games the defender must play each season.

The Mail understands that Skrtel would have to play a high number of games – possibly as many as 80%- in order to receive his full salary.

Speaking to Aktualne, a publication from his native Slovakia, Skrtel said: “It’s unacceptable for me. I think that such contracts are offered to players who are much older than me or players who have had some health problems.“

“The contract, which was presented to me, makes me uneasy, so I did not sign it. There has been some speculation about the interest of other clubs for my person, but they are currently being addressed.”

Skrtel is 30 years old – he turns 31 in December, and reportedly believes that he deserves better than a clause-based deal.
