The deal that took Raheem Sterling from QPR to Liverpool contained a significant sell-on clause, according to an article on the Mail Online.
Karen Gill reports that Sterling’s deal included a 20% sell-on clause if he is sold to another English club and 25% clause if he moves abroad.
This news will come as a blow to some Liverpool fans who, after hearing of Sterling’s apparent wish to move on, wanted the club to cash in and re-invest the money elsewhere.
Either 20% or 25% of Sterling’s likely transfer fee will be a sizable amount, one that relegated QPR could desperately do with as they face FFP sanctions over their recent spending.
If, for example, Sterling moves abroad for £40m, Liverpool would receive £30m and the London club would receive £10m.
