Sterling to sign new contract

Sterling to sign new contract

Liverpool are edging closer to agreeing a new contract for Raheem Sterling, according to The Guardian.

The England winger has been the subject of reported interest from Real Madrid, but it appears as though the England winger is set to commit his long-term future to the Merseyside club.

The Reds’ chief executive Ian Ayre held talks with the Sterling’s representatives on Monday, and an announcement regarding a lucrative five-year deal is expected within the next week.

The new contract will be significantly better for the 20-year-old than the one he signed in 2012, given the progress he has made over the past two-and-a-half years, and his emergence into a key figure at Anfield.

Sterling has claimed six goals in all competitions this season, and remains on course to reach double figures for the second successive campaign.

The Kingston-born star has returned to Jamaica this week for a short break, and looks set to miss Liverpool’s trip to Sunderland tomorrow afternoon.
