The forward had barely come onto the pitch before lashing the ball into the top right corner beyond the sprawling Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 89th minute.
The long-range effort won Liverpool’s Goal of the Month award and has now been recognised as the league’s best goal from September.
Sturridge beat competition from the likes of Sergio Aguero, Alexandre Lacaztte and Wilfried Zaha to the award. The goal won from the combined votes of a panel of experts and from the public votes.
