Three Liverpool players included in Golden Boy shortlist

The 100-man shortlist for this year’s Golden Boy award has been revealed and Liverpool have a strong presence, with three players included.

Every year, a player under the age of 21 and playing in a European nation’s top tier is chosen by sports journalists to receive the coveted award, and this year the shortlist is as stacked with talent as ever.

The likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Benfica’s Joao Felix and last year’s recipient Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax headline, but who are representing the Reds?

20-year-old goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, currently on loan at AGF Aarhus, regularly trains with the first team at Melwood but is yet to make his competitive debut.

Grabara is a towering stopper at 6′ 5″ and joined Liverpool from Ruch Chorzow for £250,000 back in 2016. He’s joined on the shortlist by Wales international Ben Woodburn.

The 19-year-old Welshman is Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer and Wales’ second-youngest behind Gareth Bale and will be looking to make an impact next season.

Rhian Brewster is closer than any youth player to make his mark in the first team though and looks set to get his chance following Daniel Sturridge’s departure.

Brewster is the Reds’ third and final representative in the shortlist and most likely to go the furthest.
