- Tyler Morton left Liverpool in 2025
- The Lyon ace has named an Anfield hero as his favourite midfielder
- One Reds star, though, will not be happy
Liverpool fans will love what Tyler Morton said when asked to name his favourite midfielder, although one person at Anfield is set to be unhappy.
Morton rose through the ranks at the Merseyside-based club before making his first-team debut in 2021 and went on to make 14 senior appearances for the side.
Although the midfielder impressed whenever he played, the Reds chose to cash in on him last summer, selling him to Lyon for £15million with a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
The 23-year-old has since shone for the Ligue 1 side, making 40 appearances across all competitions.
His performances for Lyon have prompted many Liverpool fans to regret selling him, especially in the midst of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister’s struggles.
Morton snubs Dominik Szoboszlai as favourite midfielder named
Nevertheless, Morton is enjoying playing football in France and does not seem to have any regrets about leaving the Premier League giants.
However, there is no doubt that the England Under-21 international remembers the club fondly.
In an interview with the French Football Show, Morton was asked to name his favourite midfielder in a rapid-fire session.
Asked to choose between Dominik Szoboszlai and Pedri, he opted for the Barcelona star, admitting that his former Liverpool teammate will not be happy with his answer.
He said: “Pedri. Dom would kill me, but I just like the way he plays.”
However, Pedri did not go any further, as Morton quickly ditched the Spaniard in favour of Steven Gerrard, who also edged Xabi Alonso.
He said: “For me, Steven Gerrard [over Pedri]. Does everything, real leader. Steven Gerrard’s got absolutely everything for a midfielder.”
Asked if the Liverpool legend reigns at the top of his list, the Wallasey-born man said: “Yes, definitely. Always!”
Morton’s love for Liverpool legend is not surprising
It should come as no surprise that Morton chose Gerrard as his favourite midfielder of all time.
It is worth noting that the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Xavi and Andres Iniesta were not put forward to him, but even then, it would not be surprising if he stuck by the Liverpool legend.
Anyone associated with the Reds would always choose the midfield maestro, and it would be rare to find someone who does not.
Gerrard gave his heart and soul to the club and, to this day, remains one of the greatest players to have played for the Anfield outfit.
