Manchester United midfielder admits that Liverpool’s £76m CB is the “best in the world”

Liverpool and Manchester United have a fantastic and long-standing rivalry that has lasted decades.

The Reds and United are often touted as the two best clubs in the history of English football.

Both clubs possess incredible history as well as plenty of current success in regards to trophies.

Despite the rivalry, we often see glimpses of admiration for one another from both sides of the North West.

Recently, Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek was asked if he feels Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is the best defender in the world.

The pair both play for the Netherlands ‘ national team and have done for a few years now.

Sitting down with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand for his Vibe with FIVE, Van de Beek answered swiftly over the proposition.

It didn’t come as much of a surprise when Van de Beek confirmed it, stating how important he is to their team…

As many Liverpool fans will know, Van Dijk has transformed the Liverpool backline since joining.

The club signed the Dutchman in 2018 for £76million which many people laughed over at the time.

To hear a Manchester United midfielder speak so highly about one of Liverpool’s players is always fun to hear.

It just goes to show just how highly regarded that Van Dijk is to the rest of the footballing world.

Of course, rival fans will often steer away from complimenting one of Liverpool’s best players.

However, there is no denying Van Dijk’s talent and Van de Beek clearly understands this having played with him.

As the midfielder states, Van Dijk was missed during the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 run but his return will be celebrated.

matchday.
