Van Dijk and Fabinho are priority contract extensions at Liverpool, claims journalist

Liverpool will prioritise sealing new deals for Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast.

The pair have been two of the most influential players of the Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield, with Van Dijk a rock at centre-back and Fabinho mastering the No.6 role at the heart of the midfield.

The Brazilian has even filled in superbly at the heart of defence for his teammate this season following the Dutchman’s cruciate ligament injury.

Romano claims that Van Dijk and Fabinho are the two players on whom Liverpool are placing the biggest focus to agree new contracts, with their current deals both expiring in 2023.

It is imperative that Van Dijk and Fabinho extend their respective stays at Anfield, such is their enormous influence.

The former turns 30 this year but he should still has several years at the very top, while the 27-year-old Brazilian is also a player at the peak of his powers. The sooner he returns to midfield, the better.

Keeping the nucleus of this wonderful Liverpool side is vital in the coming years, adding sprinklings of magic around it, in order to keep things fresh.

Mohamed Salah is another who will hopefully sign on the dotted line, having recently stated that the decision is in the club’s hands.
