Virals: Liverpool drawn against Inter Milan in UCL redraw

On a day of huge controversy surrounding the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw, Liverpool will now face Inter Milan in February.

The Reds were originally set to face Austrian Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg prior to complaints from across Europe as to the validity of the first draw.

Those complaints were upheld by UEFA and as such the entire first knockout phase was redrawn.

This time Jurgen Klopp’s side were handed a trip to Milan before hosting the second leg at Anfield a fortnight later.

At the centre of the original controversy, Manchester United will now face whilst Chelsea and Manchester City will take on Lille and Sporting Lisbon respectively.

Meanwhile, Salzburg faces the equally daunting task of overcoming Bayern Munich.

The old ‘null and void’ comes into play after all.

Although a majority of Kopites would’ve been relishing the trip to Austria to take on an attack-minded Salzburg side, most will see the requirement for a second attempt.

Instead, it’s a tricky looking trip to Milan.

Having cruised past current Serie A leaders AC Milan on two occasions in the group stage, the Reds will be confident of overcoming matters in the San Siro and on Merseyside.

Both clubs have a rich history in the competition and will be looking to go all the way and make it seven or two times European Champions in Russia next May.
