Virals: Liverpool starlet Leighton Clarkson set to join Blackburn Rovers

Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson looks set to join Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan deal this week.

The 19-year-old will follow the example set by fellow talented teenager Harvey Elliott and join the Lancashire club in the hope of exposure to competitive first-team football.

Despite being part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad during pre-season, the Blackburn-born starlet will head into the Championship in order to further what has been an impressive route into senior football.

As reported by The Athletic and on Twitter, Clarkson will be the next to benefit from a blossoming working relationship between the Reds and Blackburn.

Clarkson has been with the Anfield club since the age of six and made strides into the first team last season – making three appearances across all competitions.

A regular star for Barry Lewtas’ Under 23 side and the Under 18s previously, the combative midfielder looks to have a bright future on Merseyside.

Described by Klopp himself as one of the club’s ‘biggest talents‘, Liverpool will no doubt hope a season away nurturing and further developing a well-rounded game will only benefit the Reds long term.

Likened to Bayern Munich and Germany legend Phillip Lahm, Clarkson’s time in the second tier will be certainly worth keeping an eye on this season.

Much like Elliott before him, the midfielder will want to make an impression before returning to a prominent place in Klopp’s plans.
