Virals: Liverpool striker Divock Origi is ‘likely’ to stay this summer

Liverpool forward Divock Origi is reportedly ‘likely’ to stay at the club this summer unless offers are forthcoming.

The 26-year-old Belgian seemingly fell further down the pecking order last season as Jurgen Klopp chose to utilise Diogo Jota more often from the start.

This had led to speculation that Origi’s future may finally lie away from Anfield as the Reds look to offload squad players and the striker goes in search of more game time.

However, according to a report from The Athletic, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter, remaining on Merseyside currently looks to be the favoured outcome.

The report cites Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s involvement in the African Cup of Nations and the difficult task of singing a replacement as two factors in the out of favour frontman staying put.

Despite once being described as ‘so important’ to the side by Klopp, Origi made just 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal in the Carabao Cup clash against Lincoln City.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £10.8millon and with just one year remaining on a contract at Anfield (Transfermarkt), this should be the window Liverpool desperately look to sell.

The mooted £15-20million demands are certainly reasonable, albeit perhaps Michael Edwards and co should be looking to cut their losses somewhat.

Forever in Kopite hearts for some magical moments, unfortunately, Origi simply isn’t up to the standard required to drive the Reds forward.

matchday.
