Virals: Naby Keita ‘to snub Liverpool contract offer’

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is reportedly set to reject an offer of a new contract at Anfield.

The 26-year-old is believed to be seeking assurances over his role in Jurgen Klopp’s plans before committing to a new deal on Merseyside.

Signed from RB Leipzig in 2018 for a then club-record £48million (BBC), the Guinea captain has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Reds’ first-team.

Now, according to BILD football expert Christian Falk, as cited by Anfield Agenda on Twitter, Keita wants guarantees over his place in the squad.

Since arriving at Liverpool, Keita has scored eight times and provided four assists in 82 outings.

Just as the dynamic Guinean was beginning to hold down a place in the starting XI, an injury picked up in midweek against Norwich City has ruled out the midfielder for the trip to Brentford this weekend.

Prior to the knock, Keita had scored once in six appearances across all competitions this term.

Ultimately, Keita’s inability boils down to recurring injury problems and subsequent fitness issues as a result.

Whilst there have been glimpses of the star player Liverpool bought from Germany, too often the flashes have led to an absence shortly after.

Under contract until 2023 and valued at £28.8million (Transfermarkt), hopefully, Keita can remain fit between now and the end of the season and prove to be worthy of both a place in Klopp’s side and a new contract.

matchday.
