Virals: Takumi Minamino scores amongst Japanese goal bonanza

Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino grabbed himself a goal whilst away on international duty with Japan this week, but he certainly wasn’t alone.

The 26-year-old, currently on loan at Southampton, was one of a staggering nine different goal scorers as Japan dismantled Mongolia 14-0 in a World Cup 2022 qualifier.

Taking place in an empty Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba, Minamino delivered a composed finish to find the corner – a goal which can be watched here [Footage courtesy of NHK].

Since signing from Red Bull Salzburg last January, the versatile Japanese attacker had struggled to hold down a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

It was the lack of game time that saw Minamino be permitted to leave on loan on deadline day.

There’s no doubting Minamino’s quality, as he has proven since arriving on the South Coast

However, what can be questioned is the forward’s suitability to Klopp’s style – with the German himself admitting Divock Origi had previously been preferred due to his additional height.

This summer will be a tipping point in the 28-cap star’s Anfield career.
