Virgil van Dijk misses Liverpool training in Qatar

Virgil van Dijk sat out of Liverpool training today in Qatar, as the Reds stepped up their preprations for the Club World Cup.

Dominic King of the Daily Mail revealed that the Dutch defender and his fellow countryman Gini Wijnaldum were not involved during an open training session at Qatar University.

Heading into the competition, there were no suggestions of an injury for the defender, so it remains to be seen if this was merely a precaution from the Premier League leaders.

Liverpool have taken a strong squad to Qatar at the expense of their Carabao Cup clash with Aston Villa later this week, as Neil Critchley prepares to name a very young squad to face Dean Smith’s side.

Wijnaldum also sat out, but after coming off against Watford with an injury on Saturday, this will come as less of a surprise.

Liverpool have been struggling with injuries of late and any serious problem to Van Dijk would be a huge blow to Klopp and the club’s title push.
