On Sunday 11th November, Liverpool FC players will play in special kit embroidered with poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day, when they host Fulham FC at Anfield.
After the game, each of the squad will sign their jerseys and donate them to the Royal British Legion, so that they can be auctioned to raise valuable funds for the Poppy Appeal.
Last year, the special edition poppy shirts worn by Liverpool FC during the Remembrance fixture against Huddersfield Town (28th October 2017) raised £18,759.21 for the Royal British Legion. These vital funds help them support today’s generation of armed forces families and veterans, whether living with an injury or illness, coping with bereavement or finding employment.
In addition to the minute of silence before kick-off (12 midday), Liverpool players will also honour the two-minute silence at 11am, with stadium operations falling silent. Also, in honour of the fallen, the stadium flags will fly at half-mast throughout the day.
Prior to kick off, the teams will be led onto the pitch by Royal British Legion standard bearers Lyndsey Taggart and Eddie Flaherty; together with two servicemen from the RAF, Sergeant John Bullock and Corporal Jeremy Ambrose.
The LFC Poppy Pin, which features the Club Crest and Royal British Legion Poppy is on sale now in all UK Club stores, LFC’s official online store and via the Royal British Legion’s online poppy shop.
100% of the proceeds raised from sales of the badge, which is priced at £2.99, will go directly to the Royal British Legion.
Claire Rowcliffe, Director of Fundraising at The Royal British Legion said:
This Poppy Appeal, as we mark 100 years since the end of the First World War, The Royal British Legion is asking the nation to say ‘Thank You’ to the entire First World War generation. That’s not just the British Armed Forces, but those who fought alongside them from today’s Commonwealth and the countless men, women and children who played their part on the home front.“We’re incredibly pleased that Premier League has chosen to support The Royal British Legion for the seventh year running. All the money generously donated by the Premier League fans will help us support today’s Armed Forces community through hardships, injury and bereavements.
