Schmeichel’s dig at Klopp has come back to haunt him

Jurgen Klopp is celebrating five years as Liverpool manager, having arrived at Anfield on October 8th, 2015.

The German has masterminded a wonderful period in the club’s history, winning the Champions League and Premier League, guiding the Reds back to the summit of European and English football.

The job that Klopp has done cannot be downplayed and there are hopefully still many years to come of him in the Anfield hot-seat.

When the 53-year-old first joined Liverpool, his charisma was there to see in his opening press conference,

One thing Klopp said was that the Reds would win a league title within four years of him being there – something he more or less achieved, clinching glory in his fourth full season at the club.

Someone who was doubtful at the time was former Man United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. Taking to Twitter on the day of Klopp’s unveiling, the Dane even described Klopp’s prediction as a “mistake”:

Those words have come back to haunt Schmeichel, though, whose dig at Klopp has backfired spectacularly – something that will no doubt please Reds supporters.

It may have taken the Liverpool boss time to perfect his plans and turn his team into the animal they are today, but great managers are bold in their approach and Klopp has delivered on his promise.
