‘Fight’ – Andoni Iraola challenges Liverpool attacker after injury return

Liverpool have a strong squad with a mix of youth and experience, but it goes without saying that Andoni Iraola has already had to deal with his fair share of problems.

Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are long-term absentees but have stepped up their comeback in recent weeks.

Additionally, a handful of other players such as Dom Szoboszlai, Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak have missed games this season due to minor injury concerns.

One player who hasn’t featured under the new manager is Jayden Danns, who is now fully fit.

And Iraola has challenged the young striker to stake his claim for a spot in the team ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash vs Chelsea.

“Problem for Jayden has been availability,” said Iraola in his pre-match press conference.

“He has had some setbacks and has been in and out, but he is now building some minutes, scored the other day, and is in a good place.

“He has mainly been with us in European games. I hope he progresses and pushes to fight for minutes.”

Alexander Isak and Lewis Koumas are definitely ahead of him in the pecking order, but before his injuries, Danns was right up there as one of Liverpool’s most exciting young talents.

He has become a bit of a forgotten man recently, but regular game time is the name of the game for the youngster.

Liverpool will look to get him up to speed by playing for the U-21s, and who knows, if injuries pile up, he could get his chance in the first team at some point this year.
