Andre Onana is now expected to be available for Ajax’s Champions League clash with Liverpool later this month.

The Reds make the trip to the Johan Cruyff Arena on October 21st, in what will be their first away European game of the season.

Onana tested positive for COVID-19 this week, seemingly ruling him out of the contest, but the goalkeeper took to Twitter to confirm that he has now tested negative.

This means he won’t have to self-isolate for two weeks and will be fit for selection when Liverpool come to the Netherlands.

Onana’s absence would have been a boost for the Reds, with veteran Maarten Stekelenburg likely having to fill in.

Instead, the 24-year-old will now be available, while Liverpool have to make do without Alisson.

The Brazilian is sidelined with a shoulder injury for the foreseeable future, which I think gives Ajax a big advantage.

Adrian’s performance at Aston Villa highlighted the importance of missing a world-class ‘keeper, so Jurgen Klopp’s men will be disadvantaged in comparison to Ajax, in that respect.

The pressure will be on Adrian to find the form of early last season, when he won all nine Premier League games he started, rather than his recent level of performances.
