Diogo Jota expected to be fit for Man City clash

Diogo Jota is expected to be fit for Liverpool’s vital Premier League clash with Manchester City this weekend.

The Portuguese has made an exceptional start to life at Anfield, scoring seven times in his first 10 appearances, including a hat-trick away to Atalanta on Tuesday.

Jota left the field early, however, and he was seen limping his way back to the dugout. Despite this, any injury fears have been allayed, with the Press Association‘s Carl Markham confirming on Twitter that the 23-year-old’s injury is “nothing to worry about”, suggesting he could start this weekend.

Given the rich vein of form Jota is enjoying, Jurgen Klopp is left with a huge selection dilemma for Sunday. On one hand, starting the former Wolves man over Roberto Firmino makes total sense, especially given the latter’s recent poor form.

Then again, Firmino’s work-rate and vast knowledge of Liverpool’s system could be key against a top-class City team, and he has scored big goals in the past.

I feel Firmino will get the nod over Jota, with the Reds’ in-form star being brought off the substitutes’ bench in the second half, perhaps depending on the scoreline.

Should the Brazilian underperform once again, though, Klopp will surely start contemplating the idea of giving him an extended spell out of the team.
