Carragher says it’s time to leave Firmino out for “3-4 games”

Jamie Carragher believes it’s time for Roberto Firmino to be dropped for “3-4 games.”

The Brazilian is in a desperately poor run of form at the moment, particularly by his high standards.

Firmino has only scored once in all competitions so far this season, not to mention netting just five times in the whole of 2020.

The 29-year-old again struggled away to Manchester City on Sunday, failing to stamp his mark on proceedings, in an attack that also included Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, Carragher said Firmino needs a spell out of the team, when asked which three attackers he would choose currently:

Mane, Jota and Salah. Just leave Firmino out for 3-4 games.

Carragher is spot on in his assessment of Firmino, with a spell on the sidelines beneficial to both him and Liverpool.

He has been horribly out of sorts for too long now, with every touch threatening to be heavy, passes being misplaced and his finishing the worst in the Premier League, judging by recent xG calculations.

I also think Liverpool look more balanced in a 4-3-3 formation, rather than in a 4-2-3-1, so it would allow Salah, Mane and Jota to play in a front-three.

Firmino certainly still has lots of offer, and is simply out of form, but it is a concern that this blip has gone on for such a long period.
