Liverpool may back out of a move for Sporting CP left-back Nuno Mendes, should his release clause exceed €45million.
That’s according to A Bola [via Sport Witness], who claim that the Reds remain one of the clubs interested in signing the exciting 18-year-old.
Mendes has not yet agreed a new deal at his current club, with Liverpool’s pursuit of him seen as a reason for that.
While the defender could be available for €45million, Sporting want to up that release clause, and his wages, in order to ward off interest from others.
It is stated that Liverpool could ‘back out’ if that proves to be the case.

Mendes is a great prospect, already making eight Primeira Liga appearances this season, scoring one goal for good measure.
To be a regular at such a young age speaks volumes, suggesting Liverpool could be wise to make a move for him.
That being said, Jurgen Klopp already has Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas to call upon at left-back, and Mendes would not be a cheap signing.
Considering money could be spent on more pressing areas currently, such as centre-back, it makes sense for Liverpool’s interest in Mendes to cool for the time being.
