A number of Liverpool supporters have been expressing their frustration at the refereeing appointments for Sunday’s clash with Wolves.
The Reds welcome Nuno Espirito Santo’s talented side to Anfield this weekend, with a win potentially enough to take the champions top of the Premier League. That will depend on whether or not current leaders Tottenham have failed to win at home to Arsenal earlier in the day.
Hopefully, VAR will not be a talking point yet again after the Wolves match, with Liverpool generally robbed by the much-criticised technology this season.
Decisions seem to be going against them they aren’t getting the other way round – the penalty Andy Robertson gave away at Brighton, for example – causing huge frustration.
It has been confirmed that Craig Pawson will referee Sunday’s game, with Jon Moss on VAR duty. The former’s appointment for the trip to Manchester City last month was met with disdain by many Reds fans at the time.
Indeed, Pawson awarded a penalty against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in 2017 when Dejan Lovren was adjudged to have fouled Wayne Rooney. He also appeared to react ruefully to Alexandre Lacazette’s miss at Anfield in Arsenal’s defeat to the Reds earlier this season.
Meanwhile, Moss awarded a controversial late penalty to Tottenham in a 2-2 draw at Anfield in February 2018.
Some fans will be back inside Anfield for the first time since March, so the hope is that the match is a memorable rather than controversial one.
These Liverpool supporters are unhappy about the “mad” appointments of Pawson and Moss, with one labelling the former as a “villain”

VAR villain for the night: Jon Moss.

Mad how Jon Moss is even too unfit to be the VAR. https://t.co/WpBhTv9xYl
