On the eve of what looks set to be a monumental Merseyside derby for a host of reasons, Liverpool‘s official Twitter has given Kopites something to lift the mood.

From the halcyon days of last season the favoured central defensive partnership, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, have been continuing their respective recoveries from injury at the AXA training centre in Kirkby.

The duo were last on a pitch together at the start of the reverse fixture in October before van Dijk was injured after a tackle from Jordan Pickford, a seminal moment in the Reds season as it transpired.

Gomez was then injured whilst away on international duty and Liverpool’s campaign has more or less unravelled ever since.

As the key duo step up their returns to action ahead of next season as a partnership the Anfield faithful have been reacting…
