Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum may be facing an uncertain club future with his contract situation up in the air and a departure almost certainly on the cards.

That hasn’t stopped the Dutchman from performing admirably this season for both club and country – albeit perhaps his performances for the Dutch national side are more eye-catching.

Currently away on international duty, Wijnaldum has been captaining Holland in the absence of Liverpool teammate and appointed skipper Virgil van Dijk.

Following a resounding 7-0 victory over Gibraltar on Tuesday night, Wijnaldum, who scored once and made one assist, caught up with Van Dijk over facetime for what the 30-year-old described as a ‘de-brief’ on Twitter

The Dutch duo have earned 131 caps between them and, injury permitting will have an eye on this summers European Championships – a tournament that could come too soon for van Dijk in particular.
