Virals: Takumi Minamino gives honest interview on Reds career

Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino has opened up on his time on Merseyside to date as well as where his future may lie.

The Japanese international earned his move on the back of impressive performances for Red Bull Salzburg against the Reds during the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League group stages.

However, things haven’t gone to plan for the 26-year-old since completing his £7.5m switch, leading to Jurgen Klopp allowing the ace to join Southampton on loan for the remainder of the season on transfer deadline day.

Since then Minamino has enjoyed a mixed spell on the south coast, scoring twice before being left amongst the substitutes recently.

Speaking to Kyodo News, the 28-cap ace has acknowledged his future remains up in the air next term.

Here’s a snippet of the interview:

I am focusing on the present and what I can do now. I’m a footballer so I don’t know where I’ll be playing in six months’ time, but I want to be playing at a high level. It is never nice for a player if you don’t have the game time you want to have. It’s always hard only to train and not be seen as part of the first eleven.

Having arrived with plenty of expectation, Minamino’s Anfield career has certainly flattered to deceive thus far.

The loan move looked on the face of things to be a smart move, in order to get away from the mire he had found himself with the Reds.

However, down on form and game-time, a successful return to Liverpool seems unlikely at this point.

matchday.
