Raphael Honigstein claims only Mohamed Salah sale can fund ‘special’ deal

Reputable journalist Raphael Honigstein has been talking about how Liverpool could go about funding a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.

The Reds are reportedly keen on a move for the 21-year-old starlet this summer, with Dortmund believed to be willing to accept a reduced fee from the £100million plus price tag previously mooted.

However, Honigstein has painted a speculative picture as to whether Liverpool will be able to sanction the move, telling Sport1, as cited by Billy Liddell on Twitter, that only a major sale will make it a possibility.

The 18-cap England ace is also reportedly wanted by Chelsea and arch-rivals Manchester United – both sides potentially benefitting from a reluctance among Anfield hierarchy regarding the finances.

Having struggled at the start of the campaign, this season has proven to be another one of a meteoric rise for the youngster described as ‘special’ by Brazilian superstar Neymar, directly contributing to 30 goals in 34 appearances.

Signing Sancho would be a major coup for Jurgen Klopp and one that would stand Liverpool in healthy stead for the next decade.

However, coming off the back of a crippling financial climate due to the pandemic, unfortunately, this summer could come too soon for any big money deals coming out of the club.

As for the sale of Salah – although there would certainly be huge interest from La Liga giants in particular – that’s simply a non-starter given the continued contributions from the Egyptian this season and beyond.
