Virals: Virgil van Dijk ‘can’t wait’ to return for Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has, like most of us, taken up a watching brief for much of the 2020/21 campaign having missed a majority with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Despite the talismanic Dutchman’s absence along with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for much of the season, Jurgen Klopp’s side rallied in the run-in to finish third and secure UEFA Champions League football for next term.

The 29-year-old watched on from the stands at Anfield as the Reds overcame Crystal Palace 2-0 on the final day and Van Dijk took to Twitter after the natch to recognise the achievement and speak of his own comeback.

Prior to the moment at Goodison Park that saw the Dutch captain’s season come to a premature end, Van Dijk had played five times in the Premier League – earning an average Sofascore rating of 6.68.

Liverpool will have let out a huge sigh of relief last week when the £63million valued centre-back confirmed he wouldn’t be available to the Netherlands for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.

Kopites everywhere will be desperate to see Van Dijk and co back in full flow ahead of 2021/22.

Welcoming back the key absentees as well as a strong summer in the transfer market will surely see Klopp’s men firing on all cylinders once again after what has been a tough season for many reasons.

We ‘can’t wait’ either Virgil.
