Liverpool are reportedly close to finally completing a deal for RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konaté.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the young Frenchman for some time now.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that his medical has been complete and the Reds are set to trigger his release clause.
Not only this, but Football Insider also report that the deal for the Frenchman could rise to £49million.
This is due to his mighty wage increase, with the Reds essentially doubling his weekly wages to £70,000 a week.
According to ESPN, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to partner Konaté with Virgil van Dijk next season…
The claim, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter, is a bold one to say the least.
Liverpool’s man partnership at the back over the last few seasons has been Van Dijk alongside Joe Gomez.
The pair have become a reliable duo in defence for the club and their presence was missed this season.
However, with the claim that Konaté will now parter the Dutchman, what will be made of Gomez?
There is a possibility that Gomez could be moved to right-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold then moving into midfield.
Gomez has been a fantastic centre-back alongide Van Dijk, but did start his career as a right-back.
Not only this, but the constant debate over whether Trent should move into midfield has been ongoing.
With an incredible passing ability it wouldn’t be the worst idea to move Trent out of defence.
Konaté and Van Dijk could create an impressive partnership and we feel Gomez would be more than capable at right-back.
