Virals: Trent Alexander-Arnold aims to ‘silence the doubters’

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was eventually included in the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 competition.

Remarkably the inclusion of the 22-year-old, or otherwise, had become one of the main talking points during the build-up to Gareth Southgate’s squad being announced.

That’s despite playing an integral part in a Reds side that has won the UEFA Champions League and Premier League in the last two years.

Having been left out of a national team squad in March, with Southgate citing a dip in the full-back’s form, widespread reports had suggested Alexander-Arnold would miss out altogether this time around.

But, perhaps sensibly the Scouse sensation was included and he immediately responded to the call-up on Twitter with a pointed message.

Alexander-Arnold finished the 2020/21 campaign in impressive style, earning two Sofascore ratings over 8.0 in the final four matches.

Although the West Derby born ace didn’t quite reach the astonishing record-breaking heights of previous seasons, the right-back still provided nine assists and two goals in 45 appearances.

Capped 12 times by England, there’s little doubting leaving Alexander-Arnold out of the squad would’ve been a crushing blow for the player himself.

From a purely selfish perspective Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would’ve likely been delighted to see his star left behind.

Now, Klopp and everyone associated with the Reds will watch on with interest and the hope the £67.5million valued man and others return with a clean bill of health.
