Liverpool often finds themselves linked with some of the best players in the world.

This summer has been no different with the Reds consistently rumoured to be after a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

So far the club has signed French centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

However, they are yet to address the hole left by Wijnldum in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options.

It had previously been reported that the club was looking at Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella as a replacement.

The Italian had been rumoured to be subject of a £60million bid from the Reds back in July.

Now it appears as though those rumours have been squashed by Get Italian Football News editor Kaustubh Pandey.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo on their Bloo Red podcast, Pandey stated that the rumours were likely down to Barella’s agent to help get an improved contract with Inter…

It did seem a stretch that the Reds were reportedly preparing a bid in the region of £60million for Barella.

The club are already having to operate on limited finances this summer within the transfer market.

Much of their transfer activity so far has been down to player sales, with them having to rely on outgoings.

As Pandey states, the rumour are down to Barella’s agent, with the journalist saying that a new deal for the 24-year-old is imminent.

Barella’s agents have clearly been turning the rumour mill to better their negotiations for a new deal.

It is all fair game, with the rumours very unlikely in the first place in regards to Liverpool’s realistic options this summer.

Hopefully, the club will find the ideal replacement for Wijnaldum at a better price than the reported £60million.
