Don Hutchison adamant a ‘transfer strategy’ will be in place at Liverpool

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchinson is adamant a ‘transfer strategy’ will be in place amongst the Anfield hierarchy.

This comes after criticism from certain quarters following a quiet summer transfer window, as those around strengthened their ranks.

The Reds added Ibrahima Konate to the current crop, whilst youngster Harvey Elliott returned from a successful season-long loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking to LFC TV, the ex-Liverpool and Everton man was insistent that those in the know will have a long-term objective.

Surely Liverpool have got a plan because when Jurgen Klopp, the sporting director and the guys on the board are all talking and seeing all these Galacticos and amazing players going elsewhere and everyone is being strengthened, [Cristiano] Ronaldo pops up with Manchester United, unbelievable signing that is going to be. There must be a plan that we are not aware of, looking from the outside in because there has to be a strategy. They cannot keep going with just signing all the boys that are there, who are brilliant, on new contracts. There is a saying in football, if you are standing still, you are going backwards because everyone else is going forward.

The 50-year-old went on to suggest that maybe the club have ‘got their eyes’ on one of Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland for next summer.

Every Kopite would echo Hutchinson’s thoughts and hopes here.

After years of spending within their means and in most cases making a net profit, a big summer has to be in the offing.

As the famous front three all edge ever closer to 30, there is a danger of allowing the squad to grow old together – something Klopp and co must guard against.
