Pundit hails ‘great’ Tyler Morton display against Preston North End

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was full of praise for teenage midfielder Tyler Morton following his display against Preston North End.

The 18-year-old was instrumental in the heart of the midfield as a heavily rotated Reds’ came past the Championship strugglers at Deepdale.

Having ridden their luck for much of the opening 45 minutes, second-half goals from Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi ensured Jurgen Klopp’s side advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

In the wake of the first goal, Carragher took to Twitter to praise Morton for his role in the move.

Overall the teenager earned an impressive 6.90 Sofascore rating for the senior side as Liverpool eventually let their superiority show.

Born in Wallasey, Morton has been at the Liverpool academy since the age of seven and has provided two assists in 13 appearances this season for the youth sides.

This was nigh on a perfect night for Klopp.

Liverpool advanced through without having to risk those likely to feature in the Premier League on Saturday, whilst getting important minutes into the legs of fringe players and giving experience to talented youngsters.

Klopp was also particularly impressed with Morton’s showing and after the match told the media that in order to feature more prominently the starlet must now head ‘directly to the gym’.

matchday.
