Virals: Liverpool ‘closely following’ Barcelona star Ronald Araujo

Liverpool are reportedly ‘behind’ the signature of Barcelona central defender Ronald Araujo.

The 22-year-old has become a mainstay in the first-team at the Camp Nou recently and has attracted the attention of the Reds.

That’s according to a report from ESPN correspondents Moisés Llorens and Samuel Marsden, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter.

The report claims that the Anfield club are ‘closely following’ the five-times capped Uruguay ace.

Recently praised for possessing ‘excellent character’ by new manager Xavi, so far this season Araujo has scored once in 14 appearances for the Catalan giants.

Valued at £22.5million and under contract in Spain until 2023 (Transfermarkt), it’s clear to see why Barca are keen to secure the future of the Uruguayan star.

Predominantly a centre-back, Araujo can also operate at right-back and as a defensive midfield.

Although such versatility would be of use to Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp, the squad is currently blessed with options at the heart of the defence and it would seem certain at least one would have to make way for this move to happen.

That could well be Joe Gomez as the Englishman finds himself down the pecking order following a wretched run of injuries.
