Sheffield United are reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on Liverpool duo Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.

The unlikely heroes of the 2020/21 campaign as the central defenders paired up to guide the Reds to a 10 game unbeaten run and a third-place Premier League finish.

Williams was recently recalled from a stuttering loan spell at Swansea City whilst Phillips is expected to leave the club having remained at Anfield as a patient fifth choice.

According to a report from the Sheffield Star, as cited by The Lower Tiers on Twitter, the Blades are keen on utilising a strong relationship with Liverpool.

The report claims that ‘connections’ between the two clubs may ‘pave the way’ for either the 20-year-old Williams or the 24-year-old Phillips to make the switch to Bramall Lane.

One of those connections was the season-long loan move of Ben Davies to mid-table playoff chasers.

So far this season the 26-year-old has made 14 appearances for Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Given the strength in depth now in situ, allowing either centre-back to leave the club this month would be a wholly acceptable decision.

Whilst it’s unlikely Jurgen Klopp would sanction exits for both, perhaps the permanent departure of the £7.2million valued Phillips would be most beneficial.

Having featured and thrived in the Premier League and Champions League, if Sheffield United could pull that deal off then it would have to be considered a major coup.
