It’s safe to say Federico Chiesa’s first two seasons have had their fair share of highs and lows.
After swapping Juventus for Anfield in the summer of 2024, the Italian international barely featured under Arne Slot that season, although he did earn himself a Premier League winners’ medal.
In the Carabao Cup final, however, he scored a goal that gave Liverpool some hope against Newcastle United, writing his name into Anfield folklore.
And in the season that followed, Chiesa scored some important late goals to further cement his status as a cult hero.
There have been reports that Chiesa could leave Liverpool this summer, with a Serie A return on the cards.
And now, the former Juventus man has poured cold water over claims that he is looking for a transfer.
Federico Chiesa wants to stay at Liverpool
Chiesa wasn’t favoured under Slot, but it remains to be seen how Andoni Iraola uses him.
He started as a striker in the 4-2 pre-season win against Sunderland and scored a good goal from close range after being played in by Calvin Ramsey.
And speaking after the game, Chiesa said he’s completely focused on Liverpool and wants to see how he fares under the Spaniard.
“At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool,” said Chiesa via Liverpool Echo.
“I am trying to do my best for this new manager. Last year I also felt ready to play a bigger role, but then it depended on whether the coach wanted me to play or not.
“The gaffer had his game plans, he took his decisions, I have nothing to say about that.
“This year, let us say it is a new chapter. There is a new manager and I have to focus on that.”
“The only conversations I’ve had with the coach have been about pressing and tactics. He put me striker today. I have played my whole career as a winger but I am happy to play striker as well.
“We have been training two weeks now with a new coach and we have seen what he wants. He wants high intensity, one versus one all over the pitch, that’s what we wanted to show today.”
Chiesa has two years left on his current deal and could well be retained as a squad option for the forthcoming season.
