Mohamed Salah captures one final record for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah left the Anfield pitch on Sunday afternoon in a manner that has come to define his legendary Liverpool career: with a piece of history tucked firmly in his back pocket.

While the 1-1 draw against a resilient Brentford side left the Reds frustrated in their pursuit of three points, the match served as yet another monument to the Egyptian’s unmatched individual greatness.

By providing the crucial, pinpoint assist for Liverpool’s solitary goal of the match, Salah officially surpassed club icon Steven Gerrard to claim sole possession of the record for the most Premier League assists in Liverpool history.

The milestone brings his total to an astonishing 93 league assists, eclipsing Gerrard’s long-standing benchmark of 92.

Liverpool took to social media to compile a list of some of the records that Salah has broken during his time at Liverpool.

When Salah first arrived on Merseyside from AS Roma in 2017, he was largely viewed as an explosive, goal-first winger. While his goalscoring metrics have remained undeniably elite, his evolution into Liverpool’s chief playmaker is perhaps the most underrated aspect of his legacy.

To pass a midfielder of Steven Gerrard’s vision and longevity in the assist charts and to do it in significantly fewer appearances solidifies Salah not just as a great goalscorer, but as one of the most complete attacking forces the Premier League has ever witnessed.

As Mohamed Salah laced up his boots for his final season in a Liverpool shirt, the Anfield faithful were being forced to confront a bittersweet reality: they were witnessing the twilight of the most prolific modern forward to ever grace the club.

While his playmaking has reached historic heights, it is Salah’s lethal, unyielding eye for goal that transformed Liverpool from top-four hopefuls into champions of England and Europe.

Across his glittering tenure on Merseyside, the “Egyptian King” has found the back of the net an astonishing 257 times in all competitions, permanently carving his name into the bedrock of football history.

Not only did Salah break records in the Premier League, but also in the Champions League. He is the top scorer for a Premier League club in the Champions League with 47 goals.

He also broke the record for the fastest Champions League hattrick when he came off the bench against Rangers to score three goals in less than seven minutes.

Other records

No player has ever won more Premier League Player of the Month awards, with seven.

With his incredible season last year, he became the first Premier League player in history to win the Player of the Year award, Golden Boot for most goals and Playmaker Award for most assists.

This campaign was also incredible and Salah broke the record for the number of Premier League games in which a player has both scored and assisted in the same game, with 11.

ReadLiverpoolFC reacts:

Liverpool fans have known that Mohamed Salah will go down as one of the best players in Liverpool and Premier League history. The records are there to prove it.

Fans become understandably frustrated when he is underrated by opposition fans. Salah did things with his own style, it mightn’t have been the style of other top players but his style made him a top player. He will go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever and should go down as one of the best in Premier League history.

matchday.
