Jürgen Klopp has made a stunning prediction as he tips Liverpool star Hugo Ekitike to one day potentially surpass Mohamed Salah’s goal record at Anfield.
Mohammed Salah feels as if he will be a one-of-a-kind star for Liverpool in the modern era, with the nine years he has spent with the club consistently laden with memorable goals and assists.
Indeed, at the time of writing, the magical 33-year-old has a bumper 255 goals next to his name on Merseyside, having picked up the Golden Boot accolade in the Premier League a sublime four times.
His weighty goal total means he is Liverpool’s third highest goalscorer of all time, with the likes of Roger Hunt and Ian Rush – who are also Reds royalty – in front of him, on a staggering 285 and 346 goals each.
Salah isn’t going to surpass this untouchable pair between now and his Liverpool career dramatically finishing in May, but he will be striving to pick up as many goals as he can feasibly manage before his contract is ripped up.
Amazingly, 211 of those strikes would fall under the celebrated reign of Klopp, with the German – obviously – a huge fan of his former superstar, having declared him a “world-class” performer in the Anfield hot-seat.
Still, the out-of-work manager has made a bold call involving the magnificent number 11, with the one-time Premier League title winner wildly tipping the aforementioned Ekitike to potentially surpass his 255 goals.
Klopp’s bold Ekitike prediction
Of all the flashy signings that entered the building last summer, Ekitike has been the one to arguably live up to his mighty price tag the most.
Costing £79m, the Frenchman has a respectable 17 strikes next to this name from 42 Liverpool outings.
Only managing to put away a weak three goals across his last ten Premier League encounters, though, it’s clear that Ekitike has some refining still to do, under Arne Slot, to take his game to another level.
Data current as of March 27, 2026:
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 28 | 11 | 4 |
| Champions League | 10 | 3 | 1 |
| FA Cup | 2 | 1 | 1 |
| League Cup | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Community Shield | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Total | 42 | 17 | 6 |
Klopp reckons the one-time Paris St Germain striker is only getting started, with the 58-year-old declaring that the Reds number 22 could rival Salah, in time.
He said, when quizzed on Salah’s legacy and who might get to this level at Anfield: “I hope he [Salah] can have a successful rest of the season. We texted actually last night, I really hope he enjoys the rest of the season but I know Mo can only enjoy it if you win football matches and he scores.
Where he came from, what he went through and what he gave us… incredible.
In the moment, when you work with him, the bigger view it’s ridiculous, just ridiculous, unmatched numbers, we may sit here in 10 years, maybe Ekitike [will break his record] but it will be difficult.
One of the all-time greats, definitely, will leave the club in the summer, and let’s see where he will show up next.”
Klopp does, of course, acknowledge how much of a challenge it would be for Ekitike to ever hit the same dizzying heights as Salah at Anfield, with the Frenchman having to stick it out on Merseyside for another decade.
But, his career-wide goalscoring record shows off a star that is red-hot in front of goal, no matter the environment, with 41 goals collected on the books of Frankfurt, PSG, and Reims.
It will take some doing, but the baton will have to be passed on to the next generation of Liverpool heroes after Salah walks away.
